Transplanted and Enchanted

"Enchanted," the acclaimed new family-friendly hit, will arrive on DVD March 18th from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment.

The film is a modern day musical fairytale that cleverly combines heartfelt romance with a gentle spoof of Disney films of the past. In "Enchanted," an animated heroine from a far away kingdom finds herself transformed into a real live woman in bustling New York City.

Amy Adams leads an all-star cast as the lovely Giselle, a storybook princess-to-be lost in the Big Apple. Susan Sarandon plays the evil sorceress Narissa who exiles Giselle from her fairytale kingdom and James Marsden is her handsome prince, with Patrick Dempsey as a contemporary knight in shining armor and Idina Menzel as his girlfriend Nancy who suspects Giselle might just be a little too good to be true. 

The film features songs by award-winning composers Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz and will be presented on DVD in separate widescreen (2.35:1) and full screen versions and on Blu-ray Disc. Audio (English, French and Spanish) will be in 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound (DVD) and Dolby Tru HD (Blu-ray Disc).

Bonus features will include deleted scenes, bloopers, and two behind-the-scenes featurettes. A trivia based BD-Java feature - “The D-Files” - will be available only on Blu-ray Disc.

The Suggested Retail Price will be $29.99 for the DVD and $34.99 for the Blu-ray Disc, although most stores will heavily discount this title. Expect to pay no more than $18.00 or $24.00, respectively.

Honey Is Funny

"Bee Movie," the animated hit written and produced by Jerry Seinfeld, will buzz its way onto DVD and HD DVD on March 11th from Dream Works Animation SKG and Paramount Home Entertainment.

Following the adventures of a honey bee named Barry B. Benson, "Bee Movie" takes a look at Barry’s rollicking adventures outside the hive. With the help of his new friends, Mouseblood the Mosquito, a florist named Vanessa and the high-flying pollen jocks, Barry sets off an "un-bee-lievable" chain of events that prove even a little bee can make a big difference.

"Bee Movie" boasts an all-star cast of voice talent - Jerry Seinfeld, Renee Zellweger, Matthew Broderick, Chris Rock, Patrick Warburton, John Goodman, Kathy Bates, Megan Mullally, Rip Torn, Barry Levinson, Ray Liotta, Sting - and received Golden Globe, Annie and Critics Choice Award nominations for Best Animated Feature Film.

All versions of "Bee Movie" will arrive loaded with special features, but the 2-Disc Special Edition DVD and the HD DVD will offer some very special extras: alternate endings, lost scenes, commentary by Seinfeld and the filmmakers, the “TV Juniors” segments that aired on the "NBeeC" television network, Seinfeld’s in-costume flight over the Cannes Film Festival, an inside look at the cast, a music video, a DreamWorks Animation Video Jukebox, a look at the technology behind the film, the early live-action trailers and more.

In addition, the HD DVD will include interactive and web-enabled features, such as “The Animators’ Corner,” which provides a picture-in-picture experience featuring storyboards relevant to the scenes on screen; “My Menus,” which will allow you to customize character-themed menus; “Barry’s Trivia Track” with pop-up fun facts; “Build-A-Bee,” which will let you create your own avatar and email it; and “Barry’s Digital Coloring Book,” which will let you digitally paint your favorite characters.

"Bee Movie" will also be available as a Single Disc in separate widescreen (1.78:1) and full screen (pan and scan) editions, as well as in the widescreen 2-Disc Special Edition and on HD DVD. Audio will be in Dolby Digital 5.1 (English and French), as well as in Dolby Digital 2.0 (English ans Spanish). In addition the HD DVD will feature Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 in English, French and Spanish.

Subtitles will be available in English, French and Spanish and in English, English SDH+, French, Spanish and  Portuguese on the HD DVD.

The Suggested Retail Prices will range from $29.98 on the Single Disc editions to $36.98 on the 2-Disc Special Edition and $39.98 for the HD DVD. Actual retail prices will vary, but should range from about $17.00 to $28.00.

"The Simpsons Movie" arrives today in theatres and the Tenth Season of the TV show on which it's based will arrive on DVD August 7th, distributed by Fox Home Entertainment.

Arriving on the heels of the show’s historic 400th episode, as well as the big screen premiere, this 4-Disc boxed set will feature all 23 episodes from Season Ten and boasts an impressive roster of guest stars including Elton John, Alec Baldwin, Kim Basinger, Ron Howard, Dolly Parton, John Madden, Troy Aikman and Mark Hamill.

They Ain't Afraid Of No Volume 2

Tomorrow, BCI will release on DVD the final episodes of Filmation's animated action comedy series "Ghostbusters."

The remaining 33 episodes will be released under their Ink & Paint label and will be available in a special 5-Disc set for the Suggested Retail Price of $39.98.

"Josie and the Pussycats: The Complete Series" is coming to home video September 18th. Warner Home Video will release Hanna-Barbera’s classic animated TV series for the first time on DVD as a 2-Disc set.

Loved by television audiences for their catchy songs and exciting escapades, Josie and the Pussycats originally debuted on the CBS Saturday morning lineup. 

The characters were first created by John Goldwater and Richard Goldwater for the "Josie and the Pussycats" comic book and were designed by Dan DeCarlo. Hanna-Barbera adapted the comic book into a Saturday morning television program. 

The series followed the exploits of an all-girl pop music group that would get caught up in wild adventures, dangerous spy capers and intriguing mysteries while they toured the world with their entourage. 

Donning leopard print leotards, long tails and ears for hats during their performances, the group was comprised of Pussycats lead Josie McCoy on guitar, ditsy Melody Valentine on drums and Valerie Brown on tambourines. 

Their entourage consisted of Josie’s handsome boyfriend and band roadie Alan Mayberry, their cowardly manager Alexander Cabot, and Alexander’s scheming, cantankerous sister Alexandra Cabot, whose mission was to steal Alan away from Josie and take over as the Pussycats’ lead.

Lastly, they were joined by their snickering feline companion Sebastian, who not only happened to be just as sneaky and catty as Alexandra but would carry out a lot of her dirty work which would usually get the whole gang into some kind of trouble.

"Josie and the Pussycats: The Complete Series" will include a bonus documentary focusing on the show's designer, Dan DeCarlo: "The Allure and Charm of Dan DeCarlo."  The documentary tells the story of the comic book artist, turned gag cartoonist and illustrator, who contributed to the creation of the legendary Archie comics’ as well as some of the most racy golden age pin up girl art to date.

The show will will carry a Suggested Retail Price of $26.99, although we expect the actual "street" price will be closer to twenty bucks.

He's Not Bad, He's Just Spawn That Way

A "10th Anniversary Signature Edition" of Todd McFarlane's "Spawn" is headed to DVD with a street date of July 24th.

Winner of two Emmy Awards for "Outstanding Achievements in Animation,"  HBO's hit action series blasts from the comic book page to the small screen in this digitally re-mastered edition with color enhancement and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio.

Dark and highly stylized, "Todd McFarlane's Spawn: The Animated Collection" follows the story of murder victim Al Simmons, who returns from hell to earth as a "hellspawn" or collector of souls for hell.

Gradually discovering the terrifying and deadly power he possesses, Spawn holds on to his human memories and fights to uncover the truth behind his death - seeking his ultimate destiny by battling the forces of evil on earth and in himself. The collection will include all 18 episodes of the series featuring the voice talents of Keith David and Richard Dysart.

First A Comic, Then A Toy, Now Home Video Joy

Alone they are heroes, together they are "Super Friends."

Warner Home Video and DC Comics will bring them all together again when they release "Super Friends: The Legendary Super Powers Show"on August 7th.

The World's Greatest Super Heroes combine their forces and create the ultimate weapon against evil in these classic Hannah Barbera animated shorts. This new 2-Disc Collector's Set will feature many of the now renowned DC Comics characters, including Superman, Batman and Robin and Wonder Woman.

Warner Home Video will bring "Animaniacs, Volume 3" and "Pinky and the Brain, Volume 3" to DVD June 19th.

"Animaniacs, Volume 3" will showcase 25 new episodes in a 5-Disc Collectors Set featuring over nine hours of non-stop entertainment.

Created and executive produced by Steven Spielberg, "Animaniacs, Volume 3" follows Warner Brothers, Yakko and Wakko and their Warner sister, Dot, as they escape the water tower once again and run amuck along the Warner Bros. lot.

'70s Chap Caught In Generation Gap

Warner Home Video will release "Wait Till Your Father Gets Home: The Complete First Season" on June 5th, just in time for Father's Day.

The DVD will include all 24 episodes from the show’s first season, plus bonus material on four discs.

"Wait Till Your Father Gets Home" is an animated comedy about the Boyles, a lovable dysfunctional American family living in the suburbs of Los Angeles in the early 70’s.

The Age of Aquarius has dawned, hippie culture is still going strong, while the sexual revolution and the feminist movement quickly gain momentum.

Times are changing and no one knows it better than Harry Boyle (voiced by Tom Bosley), a conservative father and suburban everyman trying to come to terms with the changing world around him while learning to deal with his liberal kids.

Harry, a successful business man, owns a restaurant supply company, while his wife Irma (Joan Gerber) is a typical housewife who occasionally stirs up the pot by exhibiting her independent side. Harry and Irma have three children: Chet (David Hayward), Alice (Kristina Holland) and the youngest, Jamie (Jackie Earle Haley).

Many of the show’s storylines dealt with the generation gap between Harry and his children. Some of the plotlines featured in the show’s First Season include Chet being drafted, the Boyles having to deal with nude sunbathers during their beach vacation, Harry being accused of cheating on his wife, the family dealing with Chet’s hippie friend, Alice joining a commune, Irma getting a job and Harry being mugged.

"Wait Till Your Father Gets Home" first aired in primetime on CBS, although it started out as a one-time segment on the ABC anthology series "Love American Style" and was later spun off into a syndicated series. Today, the show is often compared to such contemporary animated series as "King of the Hill," "Family Guy" and "The Simpsons."

Hal Seeger's "Batfink: The Complete Series" will arrive on DVD June 19th from Shout! Factory.

Canine Detective Retrospective

Today, Warner Home Video releases "Tex Avery's Droopy: The Complete Theatrical Collection," - available for the first time on DVD.

World renowned Tex Avery created Droopy Dog, a low-key animated movie character at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.

This mournful deadpan detective, a witty basset hound who spoke in a jowly monotone, consistently outwitted his enemies - the conniving Butch the Irish bulldog and the thieving, Nasty Wolf and English Fox. He shrewdly lulled the bad guys into a false sense of security by acting slow and dumb, when in fact he was a genius.

"Tex Avery's Droopy: The Complete Theatrical Collection" features 24 re-mastered and unedited animated  shorts, plus 7 animated shorts in their original 16x9 Cinemascope versions, including the Academy Award-nominated "One Droopy Knight."

Stuart and Bro, From The TV Show

Stuart Little will come home once again on May 22nd, when Sony Pictures Home Entertainment releases two volumes from the popular "Stuart Little" TV series.

Each volume will include three episodes of the series, which airs on the HBO Family channel and features the voices of Hugh Laurie and Kathy Najimy. "All Revved Up!" and "Fun Around Every Curve!" will each be available at the Suggested Retail Price of $14.94.

Based on the characters created by famous children's author E.B. White, and made popular by the hit feature films, the Stuart Little animated TV series revolves around Stuart - a spirited mouse who has been adopted by the Little family - and his older brother, George.

Stuart may be a 3-inch tall mouse on the outside, but inside he is a bold, daring and curious youth with a never-say-never attitude. Our furry hero explores our commonplace world from a fresh perspective, while he and his brother - separated by species, joined by brotherhood - have immense fun together and learn a few lessons along the way.

Life's A Bitch Until He Eats His Spinach

On July 31st, nearly 75 years after his silver screen debut, the most popular sailor man in animation will finally arrive on DVD in the cartoons that first made him famous. That's the day Warner Home Video, Hearst Entertainment and King Features Syndicate will release "Popeye The Sailor 1933 - 1938, Volume 1." 

These classic Popeye animated shorts made Popeye, Olive Oyl and Bluto national pop icons and officially licensed  and authorized versions have been requested by fans for their home video collections generations.

This new 4-Disc boxed set will include 60 original remastered and unedited theatrical shorts created by the legendary Max Fleischer.

Popeye The Sailor was introduced to the American audience in 1933 and became one of the most endearing and successful characters in animation history, mainly because of his unique vernacular and hilarious catch phrases. 

His adventures were strange, humorous and often supernatural as he traveled all over the world to resolve conflicts with enemies.  Much like the other animation icons of the 1930s, the Popeye plots invoked traditional values, possessed uncompromising moral standards and resorted to force only when threatened. 

A softie for his lady love Olive Oyl, Popeye usually embarked on conflicts with villains like Bluto and Sea Hag when they made a move on his “sweet patootie.”  Popeye was usually clobbered at first, until he ate his spinach and gained superhuman strength to defeat his opponent.

With his enormous muscular forearms and corncob pipe in mouth, Popeye was always victorious after he ate his spinach.

"Popeye The Sailor 1933 - 1938, Volume 1" will include more than nine hours of cartoons: 58 (seven to ten minutes each) theatrical black-and white-shorts and 2 two-reeler (twenty minute) color cartoons. 

Some of the most memorable shorts include the remastered “Blow Me Down!” and a cameo appearance by Betty Boop dressed as a hula dancer in the 1933 “Popeye the Sailor” cartoon, the short in which Popeye made his first animated appearance.

The Collection will also include the Academy Award-nominated “Popeye The Sailor Meets Sindbad the Sailor” and more than five hours of bonus features.

Universal Gives Fans The Bird

One of the most beloved animated characters of all time is coming to DVD for the first time on July 24th. That's when Universal Studios Home Entertainment will release "The Woody Woodpecker and Friends Classic Cartoon Collection."

The Collection will feature 75 original uncut theatrical cartoons - all digitally remastered - including eight Academy Award-nominated short features and over one hour of vintage bonus materials including the documentary "Walter, Woody and the World of Animation," behind-the-scenes footage and a full episode of "The Woody Woodpecker Show."

Created by renowned cartoonist Walter Lantz, Woody Woodpecker is a cinematic legend and still a big star after more than 65 years of dizzy shenanigans. He has his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and has been seen in nearly 200 theatrical shorts since his original film appearance in 1940’s 'Knock Knock."

Woody also made a cameo appearance in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" and is currently the mascot for the Universal Studios Theme Parks. His crazy exploits in this 3-Disc boxed set include encounters with other well-known animated players from the Walter Lantz Studio including Chilly Willy, Andy Panda, Wally Walrus and Buzz Buzzard.

As a special bonus, "The Woody Woodpecker and Friends Classic Cartoon Collection" will also include rare cartoons from the golden age of animation, with treasures from the Lantz archives including Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, Cartune Classic and Swing Symphony cartoons.

McCann Is The Voice Of Secret Agent Man

BCI Eclipse and Hearst Entertainment will bring the classic King Features animated series "Cool McCool" to DVD March 13th, to be released under BCI's Ink & Paint brand.

The series, from "Batman" creator Bob Kane, was seen on NBC from 1966 - 1968 and has Cool facing down some of the most heinous villains in animation history including Hurricane Harry, The Rattler, Jack-In-The-Box, The Owl, Dr. Madcap and Greta Ghoul. And Cool does it all on behalf of his company "Secret, Inc." and his boss Number One.

This Collector's Edition of 20 episodes is hosted by Chuck McCann, who provides the majority of voices in "Cool McCool."

Reeve Leaves Behind Story About Boy Who Believes

"Everyone’s Hero" steps up to the plate on March 20th. That's the day Fox Home Entertainment will deliver this fun-filled animated adventure on DVD.

The film was a dream project for the late actor/director Christopher Reeve, who served as the film’s original director and executive producer. A funny and inspirational tale of a young boy who believes he can make a difference if he just hangs in there despite overwhelming odds, "Everyone’s Hero" features a voice cast of Hollywood all-star sluggers including Whoopi Goldberg, William H. Scooby Doo Pulls Through

Hey, Scooby-Doo, where are you?

On DVD, of course... or at least he will be once again when Warner Home Video releases "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! The Complete Third Season" on April 10th.

This 2-Disc set will feature the last 16 episodes which originally aired as part of the "Scooby’s All Stars" series. In these captivating capers, Scooby-Doo (a sleuthing canine), along with his Mystery Inc. pals - Shaggy, Daphne, Fred and Velma - tackle "The Tar Monster," face down "Iron Face" and trek the globe for ghosts from "A Menace in Venice" to "The Warlock of Wimbledon."

"Screw On" Debut On DVD

Lionsgate Home Entertainment will release "The Amazing Screw on Head," a 22-minute animated film by Mike Mignola, on February 6th. (The short film originally aired to critical acclaim on the Sci Fi Channel in July of last year.)

This title will arrive on DVD the same day as Mignola's highly-anticipated  "Hellboy: Sword of Storms" animated feature (from Anchor Bay Entertainment).

The film's cast of voice talent includes Paul Giamatti as the title character, "Screw-On Head," David Hyde Pierce as his arch-fiend, Emperor Zombie and Molly Shannon as Patience the Vampire.

In this send-up of Lovecraftian horror and steampunk adventure, President Abraham Lincoln's top spy is a bodiless head known only as "Screw-On Head."

When Emperor Zombie steals an artifact that will enable him to threaten all life on Earth, the task of stopping him is assigned to Screw-on Head. Fortunately, Screw-On Head is not alone on this perilous quest. He is aided by his multitalented manservant, Mr. Groin, and by his talking canine cohort, Mr. Dog.

Can this unorthodox trio stop Emperor Zombie in time? Does Screw-On Head have a body awesome enough to stop the horrors that have been unleashed? These questions - and more - are answered by the tale of "The Amazing Screw on Head."

"Milton" Rebuilt For DVD

In the fall of 1964, primetime television was invaded by two clans of monsters who were funnier than they were scary, "The Munsters" and "The Addams Family."

The success of these programs led to the popular animated favorite "The Milton the Monster Show." Airing on ABC from 1965 - 1968, the show was full of offbeat characters such as Milton The Monster, Abercrombie The Zombie, Dr. Goo Fee, Stuffy Durma, Flukey Luke and of course Fearless Fly, the insect superhero who was the hit of the series.

"The Milton the Monster Show: The Complete Series" will - at long last - come to home video on March 20th in a new 4-Disc boxed set from Shout! Factory.

Special features will include "Sheriff for a Day," a live-action short starring Flukey Luke; test footage for "Sheriff for A Day;" "Hal Seeger Home Movies: Milton & Fearless Fly At The N.Y.C. Toy Fair" and a bionus cartoon: "Wilbur The Wanted."

Cartoon Ghostbusters Hasn't Lost Its Lustre

Volume One of the Filmation animated series "Ghostbusters" will be available on DVD for the first time February 27th, distributed under BCI Eclipse's Ink and Paint label.

The 6-Disc set will contain the first 32 episodes of the series in story continuity order with a host of bonus features including creator interviews, the original promo pilot and a bonus episode of "The Ghost Busters" live-action series.

With the rallying cry of "Let's go, Ghostbusters!," Jake Kong Jr. and Eddie Spenser Jr. are following in their father's footsteps and have teamed-up with the original gorilla sidekick, Tracy, to become the new "Ghostbusters."

From their base of operations in Ghost Command, the "Ghostbusters" are always ready to battle Prime Evil and his never-ending army of bewitching monsters who are out to haunt the Earth. Aboard the flying Ghost Buggy, the gang often takes comical adventures through time itself, dematerializing prehistoric ghouls in the past, or zooming thousands of years into the future to zap some phantoms with the help of the bewitching Futura.

In 1975, Filmation created the live-action series "The Ghost Busters," featuring the original Spencer, Tracy, and Kong. Nine years later, the name was also used as the title of the unrelated feature film, but in 1986, Filmation reintroduced their original concept with their own "Ghostbusters" cartoon.

The syndicated series perfected a spirited balance between action and comedy with its spookily cool animation and an imaginatively colorful cast of characters - voiced by some of the best voice talent from that decade: Brad Garrett, Alan Oppenheimer, Linda Gary, Pat Fraley, Peter Cullen, Maurice LaMarche, Frank Welker, Susan Blu and Lou Scheimer.
