Murrow Thorough; Joe Laid Low

Good Night, and Good Luck.” – nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture – arrives on DVD March 14th from Warner Home Video.

The film, directed by George Clooney and starring David Strathairn, takes place during the early days of broadcast journalism in 1950’s America.

It chronicles the real-life conflict between esteemed television newsman Edward R. Murrow and Senator Joseph McCarthy and the House Un-American Activities Committee.

With a desire to report the facts and enlighten the public, Murrow, and his dedicated staff – headed by his producer Fred Friendly and Joe Wershba in the CBS newsroom – defy corporate and sponsorship pressures to examine the lies and scaremongering tactics perpetrated by McCarthy during his communist “witch-hunts.”

A very public feud develops when the Senator responds by accusing the anchor of being a communist. In this climate of fear and reprisal, the CBS crew carries on and their tenacity proved historic and monumental.

Recognized for excellence in many categories, “Good Night, and Good Luck.” was distinguished by the National Board of Review as Best Film of the Year. Additionally, the film received four Golden Globe nominations this year, including Best Motion Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Dramatic Actor.

Good Night, and Good Luck.” has also been recognized by the Screen Actors Guild with nominations for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role (David Strathairn) and Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture (Strathairn, Clooney, Patricia Clarkson, Robert Downey Jr., Frank Langella and Tate Donovan).

Special features will include deleted scenes and commentary by writer-director George Clooney and cowriter Grant Heslov. The film will be presented in widescreen in English (Dolby), with (optional) subtitles in English, French and Spanish.
